A couple days ago, HRTortie was maow-ing loudly at me b/c she wanted some gooshyfud. I said, "yes, yes, whatever the Princess wants" and then sang:
Whatever Tortie wants,
Tortie gets,
And gooshyfud is
What Tortie
Loves best!
There's a guy on the local newspaper discussion forum who has been a bigger wanker than usual lately. This is the guy I've mentioned before who thinks it's his right to confront people who have handicapped parking placards that he doesn't think they deserve.
Well, this time there was a house fire, and a disabled man (one leg and wheelchair bound) lost his life. This assclown has posted several times about how it was inexcusable that he died, that it wouldn't have happened if they had working smoke alarms in every room, and he should have been able to pull himself to safety with his arms, and they should have done this or that or the other thing.
Every time any tragedy happens, he's there with an arrogant declaration of how HE wouldn't have been in that situation because HE would have done such and such different and what the hell ever.
So this is the reply I just drafted to him, but I don't have the nerve to click "Submit":
Stick a sock in it, [...]. You're a judgmental know-it-all, and everyone is tired of your sanctimonious pronouncements every time something goes bad. It's easy to be intelligent in hindsight, safely behind your computer monitor. Someday you may find yourself in a crisis, and then you can show us how easy it is to be perfect.
My presence has been a bit sparse around these parts lately. Both in Vox and IRL. I've been feeling really anti-social by my standards, which is still probably really extroverted for most everyone else. Last night I skipped an FBS (Food, Booze & Schmooze) and ran on the treadmill at the gym instead. Then I went home and sat on the couch, finishing up the September issue of the Nat Geo so I could give it to a friend.
Such excitement! But it felt really good.
I'm just worn out and uninspired. Work is going well, which is also keeping me busy but there's not a lot of extra energy beyond office hours. Tonight I have rehearsal (good) and tomorrow headed to the Luminaries at the Desert Botanical Garden. It's become a holiday tradition with some of my girlfriends. Drinking hot drinks and walking around a beautiful space lit up by thousands of luminarias. There's an Allan Houser exhibit going out right now, too, so that will be cool. Last year was a big Chihuly show.
Spending a week on the farm in the middle of nowhere is sounding like paradise right now. Days upon days of couch time, in my pjs, eating cookies, hanging out with the cows...
*slaps self*
Okay, I still have a few more days to focus before I'm outta here.
Hope everyone is well!
What is the difference between soup and stew? Anyone know? I made a chicken barley soup/stew yesterday that was a variation on my chicken noodle soup and it was souper (oy) yummy.
First I chopped some carrots and onions and minced a couple of cloves of garlic.
I then cheated and made broth with water and Better Than Bouillon, added a bunch of dried thyme, parsley and a bay leaf. I threw in three boneless, skinless chicken breasts which are expensive, but really easy and who doesn't love big chunks of white chicken meat in soup? I also threw in a half a cup of barley. Apparently barley's not just for beer anymore in this house.
You'll note that I had to switch to a bigger stock pot because I ended up making more than I originally planned. After about 40 minutes of simmering, I took out the chicken and cut it into big chunks and popped it back in. Cooked it for another 15 minutes and viola!
The difference between this and my chicken noodle is, well, I use noodles instead of barley, the noodle soup doesn't have garlic or thyme in it either, but instead I use dill.
The other night I made really awesome restaurant quality garlic mashed potatoes. I toasted the garlic in its skin for about 20 minutes over low heat while the potatoes were boiling. Then I removed it from heat, covered it and let it sit for ten minutes. It got really soft and I minced it and added it to the potatoes when I added the melted butter (butter before half & half). I added a ton of salt and pepper and a bit of rosemary. I wish I had fresh rosemary, that would have been perfect. They were amazing. I ate way too much, but they were really good.
Here's a bit more from Live at Leeds for the Who "fans" in the hood.
Oh, and in honor of the title of this post, I could at least put an entertaining version of Barley Mow from local Irish band, Hair of the Dog. This was probably recorded at the Parting Glass in Saratoga, a great little bar where I saw Vic Wooten the first time.
This handy dandy flowchart makes beer selection simple! Direct link here, where you can embiggen view it full size.
The chart totally pegged me - it shows my two official hockey watching beers, as well as my favorites as a reusable grocery bag aficionado.
Here's the latest Tiger Woods jokes I heard at work today.
What's the difference between Tiger and Santa?
Santa stopped after three hos.
Tiger has now joined another big cat family. He's a cheetah.
That's all ah got. ;)
